Searching for Help

Although most of my low vision patients are from Virginia and West Virginia some come from other states.  Today I scheduled a man who lives in South Carolina.  His daughter who lives in Virginia found out about me by searching the internet.  Her father has been hoping to be able to continue driving and the doctor who manages his macular degeneration was not able to improve his vision with new glasses.  I spoke with the gentleman, checked the South Carolina driving regulations and feel that I can help him.

Another call today was from a man who lives in Ontario, Canada.  He has Stargardt's disease.  After talking with him a few minutes I was not sure that I'd be able to help him.  I have recommended that he see if binoculars will help him see better.  If they do he will call back and I will expect that I will be able to help him with low vision glasses.

A father in Pennsylvania called a few days ago asking for help for his 21 year old daughter.  She also has Stargardt's and has never driven.  We are checking the law in Pennsylvania to see what the requirements are.  If it seems that I have a good chance of helping her drive they will make the trip to Virginia to see me.

What I am saying here is that people with vision loss often are unable to get better vision from their doctor.  In fact, most have been told that nothing can be done to help them.  In searching for help they hear about me and give me a call.  It is unfortunate that help is not available near their home but I am pleased to have the skills and knowledge to improve the vision of many low vision patients.

The low vision glasses that I prescribe often literally transform lives.  If you suffer from a vision loss from eye disease or from some congenital condition give me a call.  I'll ask you some questions and in a few minutes I'll be able to tell you if I can help.  Call me at 1 866 321-2030 for a free telephone consultation.
