Last week I dispensed a pair of bioptic telescopic glasses to Wallace Lawson, a Virginia gentleman who has lost his driver's permit because he can no longer meet the vision requirements. His ophthalmologist had checked his vision through a telescope and referred him to me. Thorough testing with low vision devices demonstrated that he would meet the requirements to drive with bioptics. Here is a note that he sent me soon after getting the bioptics:
"Excited to get started learning to wear my BTL glasses (bioptics). I hope to regain a part of my life back to drive again. After driving for 53 years and having that taken away because of low vision, was a real shocker. But thanks to Dr. Armstrong, I feel that I am on my back to gaining my independence back. Thanks"
Many people lose their independence because they are no longer able to drive. I am happy to be able to help nice folks like Wallace stay on the road and maintain their independence. He also owes a big thank you to his ophthalmologist who recognized the problem and cared enough to refer him for help.
