Reading with Macular Degeneration, the importance of proper lighting

Good light is important for anyone when reading.  For people with vision loss from Macular Degeneration it is critical.  The light should be positioned close to the material being read and should flood the page.  Ceiling lights, floor lamps and table lamps are probably not going to be adequate.  I prefer a floor lamp with a goose neck so it can be positioned close to the page.  In my opinion, the OttLites are the best choice.  They have daylight fluorescent bulbs which provide brignt but soft light.  A perfect light for a person who's vision is impaired by Macular Degeneration or other condition.
