Stargardt Eye Doc, a new YouTube channel.

Stargardt disease occurs in only about one person in 8-10,000.  Here in Virginia where I live, there may be less than 1,000.  Many optometrists or ophthalmologists rarely see a person with Stargardt.  Because of my interest in helping people with Stargardt disease and my knowledge of microscopic and telescopic glasses and other helpful devices it is rare for a week to go by without me helping someone with Stargardt.

My new YouTube channel, STARGARDT EYE DOC, is all about informing you what is available to help people with Stargardt Disease and juvenile macular degeneration see better.  After many years of helping people with Stargardt maximize their vision I understand how impaired vision impacts your life.  I understand that you don’t go to your eye doctor wanting to be tested and monitored.  You go because you want to see better.  These videos will show you how that can be done.

There are many types of low vision glasses and other devices that help improve vision so a person with these conditions can lead a more active, enjoyable and independent life.  Watch the videos and you will learn what is available to help and how to get that help.

Successfully helping people with Stargardt Disease involves 3 important components.  First, understanding the vision loss and how it impacts your daily life. 

Second, at the low vision appointment I will carefully evaluate your remaining vision and test you with various low vision glasses.  The emphasis is always on determining what will best help you accomplish important tasks to meet your goals.

And third, following the evaluation I’ll make recommendations, demonstrate what I have found that meets your needs and you can choose whatever you prefer.

It all begins with a telephone consultation.  Call me and I will ask you questions about your remaining vision and your goals.  Then I will be able to tell you if you are a candidate for better vision with low vision glasses.  I only schedule a low vision evaluation when I am quite certain that I can help the person see better and lead a more independent, enjoyable life.  There is no charge for the telephone consultation.
