Maintaining Independence

In the past few weeks two of my low vision patients have returned to me to be re-certified to continue driving with their bioptic telescopic glasses.  In Virginia bioptic drivers must be seen yearly to be sure they still have sufficient vision to meet the DMV requirements.  Both of these people passed the test and I notified the DMV  so they could continue driving.  In the case of these two people, each of them has a total vision loss in one eye.  Their better eye also has somewhat reduced vision.  With the help of the bioptics they are driving safely.

William Tudor first came to see me in June of 2012 requesting help so he could keep driving.  His vision loss came from a retinal detachment and scaring of the cornea.  Mr. Tudor enjoys his bioptics and the freedom they give him.  He is able to drive himself where and when he wants.  Without them he would be dependent on someone else to drive him.

If you want to continue driving and are not able to pass the DMV vision test let me help you.  Give me a call at 1 866 321-2030.  I will be happy to speak with you.  I'll ask a few questions and tell if bioptics or other special low vision glasses will help you stay independent.
