As we were parting this morning Gordon Jacobs said to me, "Take good care of yourself, Dr. Armstrong because I don't know what I'd do without you". Mr. Jacobs has been driving safely for 3 years with the bioptic telescopic glasses that I prescribed for him. He returns yearly for a vision check and re-certification for his Virginia Bioptic Driver's Permit. Because of the damage to his eyes from macular degeneration he is unable to obtain a regular driver's permit. With his bioptics he is getting along just fine.
Nice people like Gordon Jacobs are what makes my work so enjoyable. What a pleasure and privilege for me to meet and be able to help people maintain their independence. I am blessed to be a low vision optometrist.
