Last week I had the opportunity to give a talk to a group of men who meet for breakfast at a local restaurant twice each month. The asked me to discuss macular degeneration, what it is, how it affects vision, how it affects a person's life and what can be done to help a person with macular degeneration see better.
I was very pleased at the interest shown by my audience. I asked how many knew someone with macular degeneration and they all did. One man had it himself. They asked lots of good questions and were very interested in the low vision glasses that I passed around.
It pleased me to help these men understand a very common and very disabling eye problem. I hope that I have the opportunity to speak before other groups.
